Masquerade in Order Chapter 23

Yesi: I know; Nikolas isn’t smart at all. I’m glad you like Bradley, but I do undertand that you don’t want him with KC, because a whole lot of people are rooting for Nikolas, and so am I.

KelsiP: Hey! It’s totally true; the most comments I’ve every gotten, that are from regular readers, if four. And that’s not counting Lexi L’s other comments, because sometimes she tends to comment more than once. Although I don’t personally count rude comments, things like that. I’m really starting to miss your opinion on what’s happening. I mean, do you like Bradley? I don’t think a lot of people do. . .

Lexi L: Yep, that’s what I just read. I just what to know why it’s called the Sweep series. I would just like to clear you up on two subjects: One, Nikolas would have liked to kill Micheal, but he isn’t strong enough. Sad. Second: Karlyn left him after catching him in bed with that witch Grace, who drugged Nik, which is the only reason he slept with someone else. So obviously it’s KC’s fault for not giving him a chance to explain things. Thanks for the comment!

Tina: I don’t really read anything on her, except Aurora, and a story that Kelsi P., one of my commenters is writing, that’s not romance, as far as I know, called Rayne or something like that. . . So what does Alison Rivers write? What are they about?? And, NIKOLAS DIDN’T CHEAT ON KARLYN! That witch, Grace, drugged his drink, because she was hired to do so. It was like a date-rape drug.

Karlyn’s POV (Pic is of Bradley. Sort of.)

She was going to kill him. Kill him nice and slowly. Make him beg for mercy. . .

Karlyn was laying in bed, in the middle of the day, blowing her nose because she now has a cold all because of Bradley fucking Hayes. He owes her big time.

But thankfully there was a huge casket in the room next to the bed, that made her feel so much more comforted. Bradley was talking to the Colonel, Isaac, about jobs, that didn’t have anything to do with Wraith. So until nightfall, when he would be back and the casket could be safely opened, she was surfing the internet, Alequist style.

Personally, it confused her. It took almost an hour to figure out that in order to close a page, instead of there being the red X button, there was a red button with the word “close” on it. And the horrendous thing was that there was. No. YouTube. That sent Karlyn into a thirty-seven minute crying fit on Bradley’s shoulder before he left.

Then she made a hate list:
1. Nikolas Valmont
2. Micheal Laney
3. Bradley Hayes
4. Captian Rosaletta Jax
5. Stark Greene
6. Anubis
7. Everyone else in Alequist that is too stuck up to do hilarious web videos.

Then, for an hour, she used a lazer pointer to play with Stark, furthering her disbelief that he is actually a killer. Stark Jumped at the wall to try to chetch the red dot, but of course it just went through his paws. He didn’t become any wiser.

He came home to a dark house with a big lump in the bed. He poked it but it didn’t move at all. “Karlyn?” he asked, worried that he killed her with his winter fun.

“Go the hell away or a swear to god that I’ll throw up on you,” she mumbled.

“What?”

“Stark jumped on me earlier today because he was pissed that he couldn’t catch the dot and he landed on a bad spot on my stomach which triggered something. I spent the whole day cleaning ’cause after I puked I had to clean it up, which just made my tummy roll and I had to spend half an hour throwing up in the toilet.”

“Ahh. . .” he murmured in understanding. “My poor baby,” Bradley said as he smoothed some of her hair away from her face.

“I want my MP3 player!” she whined and thrashed in the bed.

Then the phone rang and Bradley was more that happy to get away from his girl.

“This is Bradley Hayes speaking,” he said into the phone with a quiet tone so not to wake up his beloved.

A female laughed on the other end and he instantly knew who it was. “It seems. . .” her voice trailed off. Silence. Still more silence. “It appears,” she finally spoke, “that you’re right. The Colonel does have some evil plans that have to do with something. But to know what it is will cost you extra, if you know what I mean. . .”

“I do and I promise that I’ll get you the money. It’s really important that I have that information.”

“I’m sorry, but I need the cash up front,” she said in a bored voice.

Bradley was getting impatient. “Just think of this as a life or death situation,” he replied.

“In this case, it is, actually.” Her laugh rang through clear.

“I thought it would be,” he said, his voice seething. “I’ll make a visit to you as soon as I can.” Bradley slammed the phone on the hook and walked over to Karlyn. She was fast asleep already and he prayed that she would stay that way for a couple of hours. As long as she’s safe, he’s happy. “Watch her,” he said, pointing at Anubis just before he left.

Just before he heads home to give his darling wife her necklace that he promised her, he had to make a stop first. The Lieutenant of the Order, Cora SinClaire, a witch, had given him directions of Bradley’s whereabouts of the whole day, including Karlyn’s. And as he was about to go to Bradley for a little surprise, he bumped into the worthless sack of meat, also known as Nikolas Rowan Valmont. “Hmm. . .” Micheal looked him up and down. “It seems you don’t look so good,” he chuckled.

Nikolas had bags under his eyes, his hair was messed up even more than it always is, and his clothes were jeans and a t-shirt. Nikolas was a man that always wore suits, and only ties on special occasions. And instead of checking out all of the girls he passed, he looked down at his shoes as he walked.

Micheal was most definitely pleased with his work. It was so easy for him to knock Nikolas down a few pegs, and what “little surprise” he has in stored for Bradley and Karlyn will make Nikolas’ current self last forever. Micheal was right now in a golden mood.

“What do you want?” Nikolas asked in a dead voice.

“You. Dead. But I think I’ll wait until your nothing. Your maids clean a house very well, by the way.”

“What are you talking about, Micheal? I’m sick of your games.”

Micheal smiled politely down at him. “Did I not tell you sooner? I guess I must have forgotten. Silly me. I paid your servants to quit working for you, and to work for me. They seem quite happy to have a change in masters.”

Micheal laughed as he walked away from Nikolas.

“I hope you feel better dear. Thank you for calling me over. It was nice chatting with you.” And with that, Isaac Lockton left the apartment and Karlyn was feeling so much better after taking the medicine that he had given her. Now it was time for her to go see Darcy and Odessa, for they were waiting for her at the diner across the corner from the apartment complex that she lived in.

It was a quick walk, Anubis and Stark on her trail. The sky was turning dark as the sun dipped even deeper into the horizon. As long as the sun was down, Odessa would be safe, and they could spend the whole night talking.

The diner was called House of Sin, which on the bottom floor was a bar and dance club, upstairs was were the diner part was located. Strobe lights wove ten different colors together as the spun around on their poles were they were hanged from the ceiling. The owner was on duty, working at the bar. He had blond hair and a black mask with red trim covering his left eye, went above his nose, and dipped down to his chin. Why he had that on twenty-four/seven was beyond anyone.

KC made her way up the stairs quickly and was greeted by the witch, Darcy, and the vampire, Odessa. They took their seats at a round table, Dessa and Darcy were glaring at each other.

“What the hell is wrong with you two?” she asked as their drinks arrived at the table.

“We’re having a fight about which creature over all is better than the rest. I say witch and Odessa says it’s vampires,” Darcy was explaining.

“Well, lets see. . . Vampires get burned by the sun, holy water and by going to church. They have no reflection, they are made to be crusniks’ meals and they the common target of werewolves. No offense Dess, but vampires have to be one of the weakest creatures. And Darcy, witches have a hard time winning fights because they have to say their little spells and make potions. It’s too time consuming.”

Both of their faces fell.

“Yeah, well Shadow Guardians are almost useless at nighttime because of the lack of shadows. So it’s not your type either.”

“I never said it was,” Karlyn muttered as she took a sip of wine.

The three of them looked at each other before they all murmured “ghosts” at the same time. Ghosts can’t be killed, therefore making them inferior to any other creature.

He ran up the steps to his apartment and hoped to god that KC was still in there. Bradley pulled the door open and found the bed empty. He slammed the door and went to the phone, hoping that he could get her cell. She didn’t pick up. He was panicking and just about ripped his hair out. He was also planning to kill that wolf of her’s.

The floor boards creaked behind him and Bradley quickly turned, a gun sliding out of his palm. “Colonel,” Bradley greeted him.

The Colonel smiled, a gun in his own hand. “It seems we have some unfinished business to take care of.” Buy strobe light from http://www.fancyqube.com/
